Sourcing Clothing from Pakistan: A Practical Guide for Overseas Buyers

Textiles are Pakistan’s biggest export industry. The country grows its own cotton, spins its own yarn and makes fabric and garments under one roof in many factories. For buyers abroad, this means good value, a wide product range and the option to source everything from fabric to finished, packed garments. This guide explains how sourcing clothing from Pakistan works.

Why Buyers Choose Pakistan

  • Cotton strength: Pakistan is a major cotton grower, so cotton fabrics and knitwear are a natural strength.
  • Full supply chain: spinning, weaving, knitting, dyeing, printing and stitching are all available in the country.
  • Product range: from basic T-shirts and denim to traditional shalwar kameez, home textiles and sportswear.
  • Private label: many factories produce under the buyer’s own brand and packing.

The Main Textile Cities

  • Faisalabad: often called the textile capital of Pakistan, strong in yarn, fabric and home textiles.
  • Karachi: the main port city, with large export-oriented garment and denim factories.
  • Lahore: a big centre for knitwear, denim and fashion garments.
  • Sialkot: famous for sportswear and sports goods.

Step 1: Prepare a Clear Brief

Factories quote faster and more accurately when the brief is clear. Share a tech pack or at least photos, the fabric type and weight (GSM), the colours, the size chart, the quantity per style and colour, the labelling and packing needs, and your target delivery date.

Step 2: Understand Minimum Order Quantities

Most factories have a minimum order quantity (MOQ) per style and per colour. MOQs depend on the product and the fabric. Ready fabric in stock usually means a lower MOQ, while custom-dyed fabric needs larger runs. If you are starting small, ask about styles that can use the factory’s existing fabrics.

Step 3: Samples and Approval

Expect a few rounds of samples: a first fit sample, then a size set, and finally a pre-production sample in the real fabric and colour. Approve each step in writing. This is the best moment to fix fit or quality issues, before bulk production starts.

Step 4: Production and Quality Checks

During production, ask for updates and photos. Before shipment, arrange a final inspection that checks measurements, stitching, colour, labels and packing against the approved sample. Many buyers use an independent inspection company for this.

Step 5: Labels and Private Label Packing

If you sell under your own brand, agree the woven labels, care labels, hang tags, polybags and carton marks in advance. Our article What Is Private Label Clothing? explains how this works. Rawaani Global can also supply garments in Rawaani branded packing.

Step 6: Shipping and Documents

Garments usually ship by sea from Karachi, or by air for urgent orders. You will need a commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading and certificate of origin, and sometimes test reports for your market. See our export documents checklist and Incoterms guide to plan this part.

Tips for a Smooth First Order

  • Start with a small range of styles and grow from there.
  • Keep all specifications and approvals in writing.
  • Agree the payment terms and the delivery date clearly.
  • Check your supplier before paying a deposit. Read how to avoid trade scams.
  • Use the correct HS code for each garment type. See What Is an HS Code?
